Bloganuary 18th: the power of (un)invention

If you could un-invent something, what would it be?

This has me thinking “what an odd prompt” and I can’t quite put my finger on why. Maybe it’s because the past few months of prompts have been dominated by lots of introspective questions around who we are at our core. This just gives me silly ideas.

What could a person choose to un-invent and not totally mess up the world? I could choose smartphones, probably, because then it would change the social media landscape and how information is passed along, but I’m sure something else would eventually replace them. Maybe I should choose a food item.

Let’s un-invent high fructose corn syrup. In the US the food companies love to put that shit in everything. Maybe we’d be healthier without it, but again I bet someone would figure out a reasonable substitute or the manipulative corporate big wigs would find other ways to get people addicted to unhealthy foods.

Wait, is there high fructose corn syrup in some brands of ice cream? I wonder how that would mess things up…

Unofficial blog mascot (in progress)

Some years back I had commissioned a friend of mine to design a “brand mascot” for my Twitch channel. Part of the package he gave me is my user icon/profile picture in places. Unfortunately, he didn’t design a 3D model version.

Then a couple years later I stumbled upon a reddit post of someones Forest Dragon they had printed and painted, which led me to the My Mini Factory listing linked here. I eventually purchased the STL files (need to support people appropriately for the amazing work they do!) And earlier this week, after a year or so of dawdling, I finally printed my own.

This one was just for fun and to see the result. I shared this with some friends and they gave me some great ideas that are leading me to plan out additional prints. One of them might become the Official Unofficial Blog Mascot.

Hopefully I’ll remember to share progress regularly, so look forward to the future creative process posts!
