Celebrating different holidays

How do you celebrate holidays?

The short answer: I don’t?

I celebrate like two or three holidays a year. Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. The reason? My family gets together for those and does the standard stuff. Costumes and candy, turkey and fixings, maybe more turkey and fixings with a side of gifts.

I offered the short answer because outside of those three, there are tons of holidays, and the question wasn’t the colloquial “the Holidays”. So, I chose to interpret the question in a much more general sense, because I don’t do anything special to observe or celebrate the vast majority of holidays.

There’s a lot of work depending on which ones a person chooses to celebrate, and I don’t have it in me to add that kind of effort into my annual routine.

Favorite season

What is your favorite season of year? Why?

Each season offers something unique to like. Weather, temperature, animals and bugs, events, holidays, and more.

If I had to settle on one to be my favorite it would be Summer. Particularly around July.

Summer offers the most daylight hours and the best temperatures to be outdoors. (Depending on where you live, of course.) I love being able to stay outside clear until 11:00PM and still see the last vestiges of the setting sun. The evening and overnight temperatures make it comfortable to stay up even later, which is a double-edged sword because then there is less time until sunrise and sleeping in means missing that (unless you never went to bed.)

There are so many holidays, events, cookouts and parties to fill in all those daylight hours. I don’t drink alcohol much anymore (if at all) but I have plenty of fond memories sitting outside with friends drinking beer around the bonfire in the evening hours, too. Summer just has so much you can do!

Fave holiday?

Daily writing prompt
What is your favorite holiday? Why is it your favorite?

Earlier this year for Bloganuary I talked about how I see July as basically the epitome of Summer. Adding onto this with today’s writing prompt, my favorite holiday is probably July 4th, or Independence Day, here in the States. However, it’s only my favorite holiday because of the timing and not 100% for what it represents, because that has been used for some measure of political manipulation.

Anyways, in more detail, it is my favorite holiday because it’s hot outside, you can stay out late, there are fireworks (when used responsibly and respectfully), and we do lots of grilling and water balloon fights. My family has an absolute blast around this time every year.

Simple and straightforward answer for today.
